Exhibitor Information

The Denver Coliseum Show is the #2 most heavily advertised show of its kind in the USA (our NYC Metro Show is #1). As a result, last year's show had the most customers of all six concurrent Denver mineral, fossil, & jewelry shows. For dealers who are considering exhibiting at our show, note that Denver hotels and shipping & traveling to Denver is much cheaper than Tucson. Coupled with our low booth fees and average daily sales higher than in Tucson, you can't afford to miss the Denver Coliseum Show.

Exhibitors may select their booth location when they apply. Email Christine to reserve your selection for seven days, which will then become final with receipt of your application and deposit. If your application is not received within seven days, then your reservation will be released to others. Click to download the 2012 Dealer Application.

4. Backstage Booths (three 8-foot-tables in a U-shape, approximately 100 square feet) = $880 per booth

PARKING LOT TENTS:

Located in the rear (west) parking lot. Click here for the Floor Plan.

20' x 20' tent plus a 7'x20' strip in front of the tent (540 s.f. total) = $2,030 includes (10) 8-foot + (2) six-foot tables
Other sizes up to 40' x 160' are also available

Please note! We all try to minimize costs but it would be very beneficial to pay the optional $100 for 3,000 watts of electricity. It will come in handy for lighting on Friday night set-up for those doing Jump-Start, to run radios for ambiance, for tent lighting during overcast days, to power weight scales, recharge cell phones and laptops, operate a fan or heater, and to facilitate Sunday evening pack-up.

JUMP-START on Saturday, 8-September is available only for our tent dealers for an additional $300 fee. The extra four days is ideal for wholesale dealers who send mailings out to their customers and/or advertise in industry magazines.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

ADVERTISING:

Do you want to advertise in the Denver EZ-Guide which is distributed to all ten shows in Denver and read by 9,000 buyers? Visit the publisher's website at XpoPress or view their Ad Rates. Then email Brad Hicks (the owner) at bradhicks@xpopress.com and tell him that Lowell sent you and he'll give you a 10% discount.
HOTEL:

For 2011 we negotiated a $69 / night rate at the Red Lion Hotel - Denver Central on 4040 Quebec Street which is 7 minutes (4.1 miles) away. The rate does not include breakfast (a $10 option) but it does include free high-speed internet. This hotel is safe, clean, quiet, comfortable, and serves decent food. There are several closer hotels but all are either more expensive, in unsavory areas, and/or near the rumbling train yard. The Coliseum Show organizers do not collect a commission on hotel accommodations but to obtain this rate you must reserve via our reservation link.

IMPORTING:

No taxes are due upon importation of minerals, fossils, gems, jewelry and similar items into the USA. Further, there are no duties on minerals and fossils shipped into the USA. Be sure to have a detailed inventory list and use Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code number 9705.00.0090. This code corresponds to "Collections and Collectors' Pieces of Mineralogical or Paleontological Interest".

Most gems, jewelry, semi-precious / precious stones, and precious metals are also exempt from import duties. However there are many exceptions in which the duty is 10% or more. To learn which specific items are subject to duty, please visit the official United States International Trade Commission website and use the Search function.

If only a few items are subject to duty and the amount is low, it is usually fastest / cheapest to pay the duty. However, in cases where the duty would be high, then the exhibitor can acquire an ATA Carnet at a cost of about $300 (+ surety bond at a cost of 1% of the merchandise value). The ATA Carnet is an international customs document that allows the holder to temporarily (up to one year) import goods without payment of normally applicable duties and taxes, including value-added taxes in more than 71 countries. The ATA Carnet eliminates the need to purchase temporary import bonds. So long as the goods are re-exported within the allotted time frame, no duties or taxes are due. Failure to re-export all goods listed on the ATA Carnet results in the need to pay the applicable duties (as would be the case for items that are sold). The acronym ATA is a combination of French and English phrases "Admission Temporaire/Temporary Admission."

To learn about and obtain an ATA Carnet please visit the International Chamber of Commerce website.

INTERNET:

We will install several Wi-Fi routers inside the coliseum and charge $20 for unlimited internet access for the duration of the show. Of course there is no Wi-Fi access outside in the tents. For those dealers we recommend that you buy a broadband Cricket modem at Walmart for your laptop and pay for month-to-month service (no contract and you can stop service after one month).
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

All wholesale and retail dealers must obtain both a $5 Denver and an $8 Colorado Special Event License. Dealers may apply for their licenses AFTER the show at the same time that they file their sales tax returns. It is an easy process but it must be completed by October 20, 2012 to avoid penalties and interest. Please see "SALES TAXES" further down for more information.
LIGHTING RENTALS:

Our prices are the lowest of all the shows because we do not collect a commission on lighting rentals. Click here for pricing and sizes.
PHOTOS:

Click here for photos of the coliseum.
RV PARKING:

Vendors with RVs can park overnight for FREE every night from Friday, 7-Sept to Monday, 19-Sept in the north end of the rear Coliseum parking lot (under I-70). We need you to park away from the selling tents so that our night-time security guards can more easily monitor the area without obstructions. Fresh water and dump stations are located on-site.

SALES TAXES:

Dealers must collect 7.72% sales tax on each retail sale. No sales tax is collected on wholesale sales when the buyer has a business license. The City of Denver receives 3.62% of the collected amount and the state of Colorado receives the remaining 4.1%. Wholesale and retail dealers must file their return by October 20, 2012 to avoid penalties and interest.

For the combined Denver Special Event License & Sales Tax Return click here. Print it out, complete it, and submit it with your payment.

For the combined Colorado Sales Tax License & Sales Tax Return click here, read the instructions, then scroll down to Denver events and click “The Denver Coliseum Mineral, Fossil, Gem, and Jewelry Show” to fill in the on-line form (not visible until after the 2012 show). It too must be printed and mailed in.

SECURITY:

Security will be provided by two uniformed Denver policeman during Coliseum Show hours and one will remain inside the building after hours. Vendors will also have access to a strong-room in a secured part of the building for overnight storage. Night security for tent dealers will be provided beginning Thursday, 5-Sept and end on Sunday, 16-Sept between the hours of 7 PM and 8 AM.
SET-UP DAYS & TIMES:

For vendors inside the Coliseum building, set-up days are Monday and Tuesday, September 10th & 11th, between 9 AM and 5 PM. However, there will be no inside security on Monday night. Coliseum-supplied unarmed security will be present beginning Tuesday, September 11 at 9 AM while uniformed Denver police do not begin until 8:30 AM on Wednesday (the morning of the show). Therefore, you may wish to set up only shelving, display cases, large exhibits needing assembly, and place boxes of merchandise under your table on Monday. Then on Tuesday morning when coliseum security is present you can then place your selling stock on your tables, shelves, and display cases. Those with extremely expensive gems and jewelry will want to stock their displays at 8:30 AM on Wednesday morning when police are present.

For vendors outside the Coliseum in tents, your two set-up days are as follows:

JUMP-START vendors may begin set-up on Friday, 7-September from 9 AM to 10 PM. Overnight security begins at 7 PM on all nights from Thursday, 6-Sept to Saturday 15-Sept.

For tent vendors setting up for only the 5-days of the publically advertised show, you may begin set-up on Tuesday, September 11 from 8 AM to 10 PM.

Tear down does not begin anywhere in the show until 4 PM on Sunday September 16, 2012. It is assumed that exhibitors who begin packing up before that time will not be returning the following year. This strictly enforced rule is intended to minimize security problems, reduce injury risk, and maintain Sunday as a full sales day for our customers. However, excess stock may be removed from booths and tents before 4 PM as long as it is done inconspicuously *and* while maintaining stocked and attractive selling displays.

SHOWCASE RENTALS:

Our prices are the lowest of all the shows because we do not collect a commission on showcase rentals. Click here for pricing and sizes.
